Re: USCT troops vs. Confederate guerrillas
Mr. Ross you are the Man! I will buy your books on my next book buying binge. Excelent summary of the various paramilitary and state military units in Mo. I don't know if our friends on the board know that an MSM unit accompanied the 3rd Wis USV Cav into Washington County Ark to bring back recruits to Mo who would form the 1st and 2nd Ark that would serve quite a bit in Mo. I doubt any state had the variety of milita units that Mo had. Ky had a unique force paid by the Ky gov consisting of criminals paid to fight guerrillas led by the less then savory Edwin Terril that resulted in the demise of Quantrill and some of his Mo boys. I don't recall the state of Mo having a similar group. [Posting redacted by Admin due to inflammatory comparison.]
Again a most exceleant summary of Mo's confusing variety of milita units.
