Maybe officially in America. Some will argue that Sharecropping until the 1960's was just another form of slavery. I see another form every day with people who are bound to a certain job because there is no other work available in their community and they can't afford to move to the big city to find a better job. Or buy a good car to commute to a better job. Yes, I see this form of slavery every day in the poor rural black communities in the south.

But even past that example, go to Africa and many parts of the far east and you will still find slavery as a way of life in the same places were it has existed for the 4,000 years we have records of. Try Darfur and the Sudan for example.

No, slavery still exists. Most of the slaves in the old South weren't bound to the Plantations by chains. They were bound by far stronger bindings than chains. They were bound to the Plantations by circumstances beyond their control.
