George, I have been looking for you! You e-mailed me concerning my ggreat grandfather and uncle, Samuel McCamish and his son, James abt three years ago. Reminder:They survived Vicksburg, but never returned home-possibly perishing at Point Clear hospital in Mobile, Alabama or on the road to it. You mentioned a "dig" on that site resulting in the discovery of an officer and some others. I checked the cemetery list of those buried on the golf course (some 300 souls)of the Marriot resort, now located on the site-no McCamishes.... Do you have any new leads? Are they continuing to "dig?"
I attended a Family History Conference in Franklin. MA this weekend. The workshop leader on Civil War records suggested I call the Vicksburg battlefield museum and ask if anyone there is knowledgeable about the whereabouts of the wounded. I'm going to do that, but thought I would check in with you as well.
