Just gotten back from NYC-good hunting on my husband's family. Now, I'm back on the trail for my great-grandfather, Samuel McCamish. Your last response has turned me off to finding the steamship manifest records through the NARA. I find it a difficult place to look-you call, but it is impossible to get a person, just constant re-direction. Do you know another way to find such a record? I find it curious that Samuel and Andrew Cawood were sent to Mobile on the same day (July 24th) and they are from the same regiment. Coincidence? I haven't heard anything from the Old Court House Museum folks. Guess it's time to call them again. A McCamish cousin did see our conversation and we've been chatting ever since. More heads to put together. Just before enlisting, Samuel had been involved in a lengthy dispute among his wife's family members back in Bradley County, TN (1839-1855.) 22 pages of court records, including his personal testimony. It was as if he was speaking from the past to me. I need to call the folks at The University of Alabama as well to see if they might have a copy of the list of soldiers treated at Point Clear. You've probalby done this?I don't wanr to re-invent the wheel. Also, do you have an updated list of 43rd regiment diaries and where I can obtain/view a copy? Seems that is where you gained your knowledge about your uncle and a good place for me to continue looking.
