George: I'm sorry I missed this thread. I really appreciate talking with you about my ancestors and joining the search for the 43rd. I checked for mcCamish POWs on the internet with no results. Also, it occurred to me that both James and Samuel McCamish signed the oath not to take up arms after Vicksburg, so unless they re-uped they would not have ended up in a POW Camp....Samuel was 51 so it's likely he would have died of his wounds because of his age. His Regiment had been in charge of guarding trains near his home, so the seige of Vicksburg must have taken a mental toll as well as a physical one. He was in the Vicksburg hospital from July 4-23 and could even have perished from lack of care in transport to Mobile, then if he made it that far to Point Clear. It's interesting to see the journey you have had as you finally discovered the true name of the hospital and the lengths you went to for Capt. Cawood. Did you ever get in touch with his family? Did they attend the re-inactment dedication? Did I ever send James muster record to you? I see here you didn't have it as of April 2008. I continue to search, especially for a coroner's or military mortician's report taken at Point Clear.
