Mr. Hodge:
I really appreciate your follow-up email concerning the NARA. I recently visited the Waltham, MA locale and found some much-needed information on others, but as you said, Samuel McCamish's information is most likely to be found in Washington D.C. My attention has turned recently to Ft. Morgan, Alabama where some of the wounded from Vicksburg may have been sent. According to Henry Seale "Until the Battle of Mobile Bay, returned Confederate prisoners were delivered to Confederate authorities at Ft. Morgan, then transported via steamer down the Mississippi to then Federal held New Orleans, then to Ft. Morgan. Once back in Conf. hands they were transported up the Bay to hospitals at Pt. Clear and Mobile." Also, there is a burial site at the Fort for those who didn't survive. Records of their treatment, statistical morning reports of patients can be found in the 109.8 area (Records of the medical dept., Confederate War Dept. 1861-65) in the D.C. Archives.
Regards,
Patricia
