I'd like to see compiled a list of offences committed by Clayton's cavalry, each specific documented by sources, so that all can read the charges. Think of it, if you like, as a bill of indictment for the war crimes Clayton and his men perpetrated. That would help my research, perhaps make a contribution to Arkansas history, and maybe elevate discussion above who we all are. John

No offense, but many of us have learned by long and tedious searches that neatly compiled Arkansas Civil War information of most any kind, along with specific documentation by sources, can be difficult to come by.

I would strongly suspect that would hold doubly true for trying to uncover any such well documented war claims by a defeated Arkansan populace against a victorious and vengeful enemy. And, who would they complain to, Powell Clayton or other Reconstruction dictators and carpet baggers?

Reconstruction itself was a long term barrier to any justice for the defeated. Further, in a state with divided loyalties, I would think that any complaint, large or small, made by a Southerner would have drawn unwanted attention by those retribution seekers who found themselves in power in a post war Arkansas.

This is merely an opinion formulated by the collection of my own personal study; if such is permissible in this discussion.
