In researching material for Camp Nelson, I ran accross a source of Gen. Holmes obtaining one million dollars to purchase military equiptment and supplies. (going by memory here) He purchased in Memphis and the surrounding area (Holly Springs Ms) a bunch of wornout and out dated supplies. He gathered it up and had it shipped by boat to Little Rock. In the area of arms there were old muskets, shotguns and sporting rifles. There may have been some Memphis Novelty Works items in the load. A large amount of these supplies ended up at Camp Nelson, Arkansas. If you need more info or clarity, I'll run down the source. R.D.
