I have seen references to Faulkner's company but did not know his first name. There were other cavalry units in Taylor's army in early 1864--Benjamin's Company, Dubecq's Company, William Harrison's battalion, and the 1st and 2nd Louisiana State Cavalry battalions. None of these units had much training and were not used on scouting or picket duty. Most of them acted as couriers or headquarters guards. Until Green's Texans could arrive, Taylor had to depend upon the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry despite his reservations about Colonel Vincent's competence.
