Thanks for the message Bunny.
The book I mentioned, "Point Lookout Prison Camp for Confederates" published in 1972 by Edwin Beitzell, would be most fascinating for anyone who was interested in the prisons for confederates and/or had ancestors held there. I would imagine that your library could get it on loan from the St. Mary's County (Maryland) library in Leonardtown, Md. It is 216 pages in length and has many interesting stories, prisoner diaries and anecdotes. It also has copies of all(?) the original artwork by prisoner John Omenhausser that has appeared sporadically in other books. These pictures show like nothing else what it was like there.
Unfortunately, the roster in the book lists only prisoners who died at the point, not those who survived. There are 3 "Cross" soldiers listed, all from Virginia regiments. Their names were Isaac, J.D., and J.T. There was one "Rigsby", a R.H. from Virgina.
My ancestor was also in Co. F. of the 2nd La.Cav, but was not a prisoner of war. I have copies of a few letters of his that are interesting. I would very much like to hear from your friend regarding their ancestor from Co. F.
