Re: How to find my Great Grandfather?

Just a quick update. I am no longer on Ancestry.com but I did just get back to the area in Illinois I grew up and was able to go on side trips to two small towns my Grandfather's lived. Both here about 20 minutes from the larger town I was raised in. One was in IL and one was in Missouri. My Grandfather son of Ira or Sidney Ira Taylor died in a small Missouri town called Philadelphia. Got some great photos and like you said I stood where he would have lived. My Aunt had owned his actual property when I was a teenager so I had been where he died before. Then the Illinois place my other Great Great Grandfather had brought plants from Germany and made a Nursery there he later moved to the bigger town. That Nursery is still a thriving business so I went by it. I still have relatives who own it. It's been very interesting. Still never did find Sidney Ira Taylor's family. I have a profile in my mind but it's only conjecture. I have a feeling they came from England sometime around 1800. I read some people could only afford the passage if they worked for a few years in America and paid it back. Just guessing but I believe this to have been how my Great Grandfather might have been born in Mississippi. Lowndes County was where Sidney lived and worked in 1860 according to the census. I truly believe his family lived there. I have researched every Taylor family in that county. Two had men the right age with no wives. Both named William my Grandfather's name. Seemed like hard working people. Did not have a lot of money. I will leave it at that. Thanks so much for all of your help. I had a friend on facebook tonight give me a link for a 150th anniversary of the Civil War and I will keep reading about it. Tomorrow my husband and I go to see the replica of the Viet Nam War Wall that will be here in Minnesota. I now know why my Dad found studying wars so interesting. I think I put here about finding his photo in the WWII photos on Fold 3. Most exciting was looking at the photos from Camp Van Dorn in Centerville, Mississippi and tagging a photo of my Mom volunteering with the Red Cross! When we would drive through Mississippi we always went by the house she stayed there and she would talk about the sheets they would hang between the beds. Fond memories of Mississippi and I just found a Soroity Sister Pi Beta Phi U of So Miss and she said I can come see her anytime in Mississippi.
