John, I think you might have said, "It boggles my pitiful '21st century' mind to understand how one can equate the owning and possessing of other human beings as a right.
I have learned from my own readings that in the 18th and 19th century there was little difference between owning and possessing a slave than owning and possessing a farm animal, or a stout wagon, or a dog-trot cabin, or a . . . except the slave, being a human being was in many cases treated as a member of the family.
