Then the northern states was fighting for segregation and the south was fighting for intergration because all blacks were not slaves, in fact some were major slaveowners. Isn't that just the opposite of the racist south we all have been hearing about? Hummmm, makes one think.
I agree that slavery was an issue, but I diagree that it was the main cause. I think maybe taxes also had something to do with the move to leave the union. If slavery was the whole issue the south ould have taken Lincoln's offer to come back to the Union a nd keep their slaves, don't you think?
What Union states specifically were fighting to free the slaves?
