I cannot remember the source, but at one time Lincoln had advocated removal of all black people. Perhaps he was thinking about proposing the peaceful "European" solution of purchasing freedom for slaves, but with a twist....send them all to Africa.

We have been over the subject time and time again, the causes of the War and causes of secession are two separate topics. Lincoln wanted a strong central government and the only things he really cared about abolishing were the Bill of Rights. He certainly made a lot of headway and Congress is still carrying his water to this day.
