It is highly possible that can or could be the case. The slavery issue, or Lincoln's stance on slavery prior to being elected is the straw that broke the camel's back.

Note in his speech, the attempt to show the Republican Party not being radical, nor sectional. Now we all know that is a lot of bull. He presented the Party as delicately as he could all the while double talking and conniving for it original purpose. Thus in 1859 Lincoln says, "it's about Slavery, North and South". The Republican Caucus of 1864 said the Number One cause of the War was slavery.

It is no wonder why the Southern States feared Lincoln. He spoke about doing away with the Consitution at an early age and came out publicly against slavery in 1859.

Everything else is double talk and manipulation. When that didn't work, he put you in jail.
