Thanks, I had not heard of Abraham Enloe...but...maybe thats where Lincoln got his given name..

The story I heard was that Abe`s mother (Nancy Hanks) came from a very poor family and was hired out as a servant to the Hightower family, she got pregnant but since she had so many "boy friends" she could not name the father. Thomas Lincoln had moved to Kentucky from the Hightower area and was known as someone who would do about anything for some money. Mr Hightower sent Nancy to KY escorted by his overseerer who he gave 100 lbs to give Thomas Lincoln if he would marry Nancy (he did).
