However,if the objective is not only to move the existing Confederate inventory to an alternate site, but also to select a site and arrange the site and sequence the Confederate story a person hears as they tour the new site in such a way as to attract new poeple and educate, through involvement in the site, those new museum patrons about the truth behind the Confederacy, and expanding the national base of people who not only understand, but can explain the story of the Confederacy and its central role in American history, then that is another far more ambitious approach.
My real point is that if a project like this were undertaken from a Confederate viewpoint alone, the results realized would be quite different than if the viewpoint were national in scope with more ambitious goals in mind having to do with the long term preservation and dissemination of Confederate history/heritage - the results could not only be a Museum of the Confederacy, but a National Museum of the Confederacy - if that is the viewpoint adopted from the get go.
Montgomery, Andrew Jackson's expedition, early French Army posts, etc. All have one thing in common - they are pretty much Confederate-centric in nature. Instead, it seems that the interpretation of Confederate History in a National context would open up many more doors through which we might avail ourselves of people resources, funding, creative exhibition talents, etc.
But, I probably am making too much of this.
