Re: How 'bout Montgomery?

"Boz, are you saying that we should use our past and our culture to explain and relate to the way the world is now, without dwelling nostalgically on that past? If so, I agree with you."

Exactly, Stan, IMHO what Southerners are doing right now, all over the country is fun, interesting, even educational and useful when it comes to preserving and protecting the flag and selected monuments as they come under attack, BUT - in the long run, I think it will become apparent these were meager efforts insufficient in their scope and educational value, to fight the ever-rising tide of predujice and revisionism that is overtaking Southern culture and heritage every day.

In short, I think some number of Southerners, across all the old CSA statew, must toss aside the mind set and approaches of the past and set a new direction for Southern Historical preservation - a direction that is a radical departure from the past; a direction that is characterized by Southern interstate cooperation instead of State by State efforts which leads me to my prior post at http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/nvcwmb/webbbs_config.pl?read=57896 , titled CSA State vs. National Loyalty - Yesterday and Today.

That, by the way, was a post that received not one response - a fact which I believe is indicative of the problem I speak of - an unwillingness to even discuss a new approach vs. sticking to old tried and proven approaches, possibly out of fear or concern that someone might interpret such a new approach as a sign of (just a guess) defeat, giving up, or abandoning the fight.

In these ever changing times, Stan, Southerners must learn to adapt and change along with the rest of the country, or our history will perish except as the textbook publishers decide to represent it in classrooms all over the country. A "National" Museum of the Confederacy, located quite possibly as you suggest and designed to create a forward looking impression on visitors would be a step in the right direction.

You see my point, Stan?

By the way, Branson, Mo - Crossroads, border state, millions of tourists from everywhere - could be an excellent location, Stan. That's the "outside the box" type of thinking I have been getting at lately.
