Are close-up photos available of that 14th AL flag? I assume it to be a 5th, 6th, 7th issue?
I wonder if those fully machine sewn might indicate assembly of a more "professional" nature--that is, by the depot itself, or a textile firm--someone that had/could afford the machine? Putting the timeline together, and the manner in which the piecework was done, there should be a couple examples of each issue all-machine sewn (by whoever was doing it), rather than all of one particular issue being all-machine sewn. If the stitching were distinctive, that might tie several flags to one maker.
Is it assumed that all sewers were woman, or do records confirm this? I know it follows, naturally so to speak. Hundreds of woman worked at the ordnance laboratory in Richmond--and more than a few were blown to bits.
