Semore York was a leader of the Tories in North Carolina and led troops against the rebels. His force was beaten and captured at Moores' Creek Bridge. Nearly hung for his acts against the patriots, he was released and given the right to live in peace, retaining his property. His direct decendents were Unionist during the Civil War and during WWI one of his grandsons would become a great hero, Sergeant Alvin C. York.
You'll find many Unionist in East Tennessee and West North Carolina were decendents of Tories of the American War for Independence.
