immoral, unnecessary, and I'm getting the picture from others that it had a tremendous trickle down effect on the people of that country for generations afterward. In fact I was quite astonished at the comments of another poster who said his family used to carry on about it quite a lot if I understand his comments. Did your family do that too?
My family had people in the Civil War from NY state, we're from Farmingdale (hometown of the P-47 Thunderbolt), but I don't recall ever hearing much about the Civil War at all. All this being still so front and center in the lives of Southerners is quite eye-openign to me.
But at some point it can be detrimental, holding onto those old grudges. Like wallowing in some kind of self-pity thing like "you're the goverment, you was supposed to look out for me. I coulda been a contenda but the yankee put me on a one way trip to Palookaville." See what I mean?
