I am proud of my Grandpa Alex for helping preserve the union. Also glad to hear that ole Jonas was able to get some loot from those nasty Brits. I must admit that we owe the Confederacy some graditude for what they did for us in regards to the slavery thing. The Federal government tried for about 90 years to do something about it and the Confederates were able to abolish it in only four years. How bout that. Also as you know from other threads, most of the best officers went with the south and left only low rank officers for the most part, but you have to admit they were quick learners. Made a lot of mistakes early in the conflict but by the end they were able to clean a lot of clocks with the help of the northern industry. Never understood why the south did not crank up its industrial might and let them Yankees have it before they were forced to the surrender table. Would you have an answer to that?
