News flash --
In most of the civilized world killing anyone in cold blood is considered a criminal act. Do not try this at home!
We don't have Mr. Early's account of events, since Looney left him for dead on the road. We simply have the killer's own account of events -- he recognized a man he had reason not to like passing on a public road, shot him without warning and left him bleeding.
Evidently Looney knew he could boast about murdering Early without fear of legal action being made against him. State and Federal officials then in power were his friends and supported him. To men like Looney, the war and its aftermath provided a convenient excuse to pursue personal vendettas against his enemies and settle his accounts in blood. What a "nice story" ;)
