David, I remember reading that there was bounties on G.W. Kirk and Keith Blalock. About bounties on all deserters or others, I'm not that sure. The story line in Cold Mountain where the two musicians are shot ....one being the Stob Rob character is based on the capture of three outliers, George and Anderson Groooms and a man named Caldwell. The local Home Guard Commander Captain Teague had them play a song like in the movie...Bonaparte's Retreat...When finished they were line up and shot. The bodies were left where they laid. Later their people came and got them. So it would not appear there was a bounty on all deserters and outliers as they left them where they fell.
