Alan and James,
The reason I bring this up is my family history has in it the story of my GGG Grandfather rescuing his brother-in-law from two homeguardsmen who arrested him at home (took him out of his bed) and took him down to the river to await a boat to transport him down to Mobile. He had his furlough papers for illness from his unit. My GGG Grandfather (he was in the reserves) and his brother were informed and they armed up and went after them. Rescued him without firing a shot before the boat got there. This incident I believe had an effect twenty years later when one of these men was involved in my GGG Grandfathers murder. I thought maybe these guardsmen were after some money they thought they could claim, but I was not sure.
