This in my opinion is a very true statement. From the very first days of the Revolution the debate over the form and authority of the Government, which was to rule over the American people, was hotly debated. Jeffersonian Vs Hamiltonian philosophies of Government. Federalism Vs a centralized authoritarian Government arguments were certain to tear this country apart. Such competition between differring concepts of power demand that one must become the master over the other forms of government.
The power that is in Government is a narcotic that few men can resist for long. As a reult we did have our Civil War. Which changed our form of government from the Federalist Republic that we were granted under the Constitution to what it is today, a government which dictates almost every facet of our lives daily. In the process we lost a lot of our original Liberty.
