Good point George. One industry to show a large growth was lumber. While it was thriving before the war, it went up after. Lots of new construction to replace the destruction. Three of my family lines from Alabama migrated to this area just because there was employment in the lumber mills. Those living in coastal areas were at least able to obtain seafood. The fishing industry took off too because of Dr Gorrie's little invention. The poor living inland had a much more difficult time in recovery. Some never did. I don't think the gov. had FEMA back then to pass out vouchers and give out trailers. People were on their own.
