Thanks Linda. For us, it was just the way life was. Being a child, I had no political concept to muddy my views on those I met. Most were poor in material wealth but what they taught me was worth more than money can buy. At no time, did any of the people on the 'welfare route' act like they were too busy to visit and talk a while. Now, everyone is busy. We've lost the ability to connect to others because of the modern techno gizmo's. Email, tweets, whatever they are called leaves 'humanity' by the wayside.
It's so disturbing when we hear so many shouting about the South and it's 'racism'. My GreatUncle was a politician. He was a member of the Florida House of Reps. He also bought up property when it was up for grabs due to property tax defaults. One of those tracts he bought has an interesting twist. He was presenting the deed to that land, not selling it but giving it, to the congregation of a Black Church. That was on Thanksgiving morning in 1956. While he was turning the deed over to them, he had a massive heart attack and died right there at the pulpit. That church is still going today. Many of those in the congergation were at his funeral. That was the way the 'real' South was. People connected to people, not to wireless contraptions.
