With all due respect. There is so much written source lost to the historian today. This is explained by the sad state of affairs that existed throughout the Confederate south in the last months of the war. It is not wrong for serious, knowledgeable historians, or historically minded souls to speculate or propose a theory based on what limited data is extant. Forgetting for a moment the profit motive, and the need to SELL a flag with only part of the story or the lack of a document, forget that on these boards for a while. Accordingly, do not condemn a sincere, not profit generated blog with a THEORY; it is done in every higher place of learning on this earth. You look at a flag, in this case, and using the "Scientific" method, propose a theory, even with what limited info. there is available. There just might never be more, or one day the stuff will surface and THEN the theory may be augment, proved or discarded all together. THIS IS NOT A CRIME, THIS IS NOT FRAUD! So, for a historian to state there exists a flag that is not typical of the flags made in X for these observed reasons" A; B; C; etc. The reader(s) of the theory (or the grader of the paper in school), looks at the merits, the logic, the "So far" existing proofs, in that proposition. No need to cry foul, rape, fraud; if makes sense, and has merits to you the reader, give the writer an A, but no validity give him an F; but to not ascribe nefarious motive to freely given/shared theory.
