Additional two cents worth and some observations....

Have long been researching both Quartermaster and Ord records, particularly goods made in or shipped into the region consumed by the ANV during the war. Since the focus lately has been on Staunton Depots activities have been going back through related files. It was also noted that the QM at Staunton Depot reported to his superiors in Richmond; much difficulty in compiling his returns and reports due to the fact that all his records, invoices and papers had been captured and destroyed by the enemy when in the area in June 1864..... So appears some of the local depot invoice records that might have been related at or before that time might not have survived....

Hoards of records in Richmond of goods sent/forwarded to the Staunton Depot... arms, ammunition, accoutrements, uniforms, etc for use and dispursement out of that Depot.... Also noted what goods were being produced and forwarded back to Richmond harvested/purchased from the local area... and/or made use of there.... Cow hides, leather, forage, food products, wagons, and shoes mostly... Invoices are quite detailed to what items were shipped to Staunton. Also those recieved from Staunton. Flags normally being a quartermaster handled item... At this point in time I have not found any QM invoices that show Richmond produced flags being sent to the Staunton Depot.

It was also noted that the Staunton Depot did alot of purchasing and dealings with the regional area for various raw materials and goods... Survey of period newspapers in the area and advertizements of what goods the local merchants and individuals were selling and wanted sometimes can give a glimpse of what material resourses may have been available as well as lacking. Mid-late 1864 through early 1865 there was a significant number of postings of merchants begging for raw wool... some would take wool in kind as payment or exchange of other goods, purchase outright... or exchanged for finished "cotton or woolen goods" (mostly imports)....

Also noted were merchant advertizements of "Fresh Blockade Goods".... besides various sundries and paper were assorted imported fabrics... Dress goods, cotton and linen... but also including lots of available Flannel.... In these advertisement postings it was described as "White Saxony" "Lancashire" and "Napoleon" Flannel.... Maybe a piece of the puzzle here somewhere...
