First let me thank you for referring to me as a
expert. Personally, I do not like the term and
never use it in describing myself.
I assure you that my research is based on much
more than a dictionary. I do not claim to be a
"textile expert". I rely on those who make their living in that field for the basis of my findings.
A conservator told me that challis flannel was unsuited for flag making. Howard Madus was the
fellow that said it was used in at least 4 flags. If
a mistake was made it was his. I merely pointed it out.
I also never stated that the Milwaukee flag was a
Staunton product. My point was that given the
challis content; was it made there? According to Madaus' theory that was certainly possible. Or was it?
Since you consistantly berate the conservator that
I consulted with. May I ask your credentials in the field? Besides making reproductions for play-time soldiers, what are your qualifications in this field?
Did you take "textile science history 101"?
On the contrary my trip to Carlisle and my exploration into the Madaus papers were very fruitful. You should try it.
Neither myself or Greg Biggs found anything
concerning Staunton-issued flags in those papers.
In fact the topic was never touched upon. I do not
believe that the both of us could have missed it or
ignored it if we had found such documentation.
I will admit that we have not yet completed that project and that there are still several boxes of documents left to go thru.
If I (we) find it I will be the first to post that info here.
You asked for documentation proving that the flags were not made in Staunton.
I ask you for documentation that proves that they were issued & manufactured in Staunton.
