Ken,
O’ Gosh how do you debate a flag expert who’s source of textile knowledge comes from Webster. It seems that researching flags (a textile by the way) one would have a textile dictionary or some other basic source to identify the weave, fiber count. etc., unbelievable. Even google is better then your source of textile knowledge.
In one sentence you said challis is unsuitable for flag making, in another you state it was used, too much gumbo? You or your conservator need to get together on your assumptions, just plain bogus.
I never said that the your Milwaukee flag was a Staunton flag, in this thread or any other thread on this board that this flag was discussed, tree times now. I took issue with your “Textile Conservator” statement, how can they be a textile conservator and not know the origins challis flannel, that is textile science history 101.
Your trip to PA to go through Howard’s stuff must have been a wast of time if you couldn’t find his documentation on the Valley troops receiving flags from the Staunton depot. If they were not made there, where’s your documentation?
Happy Trail’s!
