The Cazadores Espanoles were part of the brigade commanded by General Benjamin Buisson. The brigade was transferred to Confederate service about March, 1862, under the local defense act (a Confederate law). One report states they were at the Chalmette defenses when Farragut's ships arrived, April 25, 1862. The brigade was disbanded the same day.
