The Crescent Regiment was initially a 90 day Confederate service unit, not a six month's one. I have touched original muster rolls for the unit that state they were originally 90 day Confederate troops. The mathemetician in me will state that the May 15th deadline you give for the Sumter Regiment to turn to Confederate service is incorrect. Since they enlisted for 90 days, their time would be up at the end of May, not the middle of it. Addtiionally, the Chalmette Regiment under George Logan did a fine job alongside regular Confederate troops at Fort Beauregard so it does not rightly fit the staement you made that "the Confederate army was no place for militiamen".
