I worked for a major corporation and make gobs of money. Given the chance I had rather work in the fields, I did that also as a kid, with a horse and wagon.

Lets se working in the field--
Long hours, sunup to sundown at harvest. Mind you harvest in not 365 days a year. Maybe 3-4 months. Livestock requires daily care.

Working for "The Man"

Long hours-- sometimes 12-16 hours per day.
Wearing safety equipment. Welding shield, sleeves, gloves etc.

Conditions, dirty, noisy hot, dangerous, very skilled, streesful. Good math, and readin skills.

Heat, depending on thickness of steel I may be inside a pressure vessel preheated to about 300 degrees F.Sometimes steel was up to 8" thick. Pressure vessel may be anywhere from just big enough for me to lay on my belly to 12Ft. in DIA.

Noise level, very high, I wear hearing aids today. Everyone I worked with has hearing problems.

Constant eye strain, I have also had to have eye suirgey toso that I could drive safely again.

Stress level were very high. All welds are either "UT'd" X-Rayed or dye pen checked. all are pressure tested.

I have been burnt on every part of my body, yes there too. I have had my knuckles blistered and the blisters would turn to sores and stay for weeks. I have spent countless hours in the hospital getting steel pulled out of my eyes or molten steel out of my hide.

I have had a htotal hip and knee replacement because of some of the positions I had been in. All of my friends walk with limps.

I can go on and on a nad on, but you get the point. Give me the fields.

I know your first argument is gonna be "But you had the freedom to leave" Think about it, did I really? What was I supposed to do, pick up my family, leave everything we own and go look for another job that paid the same and with the same benifits?

I ain't complaining, just stating fact, you see I know, everybody doesn't get the cushy jobs.
