I believe you were responding to my joke about traitors. I don't know where you got that "Southern trash" bit...that's not what I said.
My little joke was in reference to all Americans from the perspective of the British. Canada was founded in large part by United Empire Loyalist.....Loyal to the Crown of Britain...not a traitor.
Traitor: somebody who commits treason
Treason: the offence of violating the duty of allegiance owed to one's crown or government
Treason/traitors depend on one's point of view. The revolutionary hero was most certainly seen as a traitor by Britain. As to the South....they owed allegiance to no one....it was a "new" form of government...by the people, for the people and I happen to believe they acted in accordance with the law ie. the Constitution. How ironic that in Lincoln's Gettysburg Address he lamented the possible loss of "this new form of government", while all the while he was in the process of destroying it.
Americans still have the best form of government in the world....it's just not as good as it once was!
