Thank you for your posting. The reasons that men serve in the military probably didn't change much from 1865 to 1965 (the year I was drafted). I reported for induction and served my time because it was the law and the consequences of not reporting and serving would not have been acceptable to me. I didn't see combat, thought I was really being picked on in bootcamp but I survived and I am probably a better person because of the military experience. Joe
