In 1965, the disciplinary unit at Recruit Command, NTC San Diego, was 4050 (I think). Those guys wore red-painted white hats, went everywhere doubletime with a nightstick in their ribs. When they came to chow, you were't supposed to look at them and they did eat standing up and at doubletime. I remember hearing that they spent their day filling buckets with sand and carrying the buckes with outstretched arms and dumping them at another sandpile. Then they repeated the action.
