Well, Commander, as you know, Chief Petty Officers ran the Navy then, and still do, but with a layer of political correctness. In boot camp, we turned a barracks cleaning detail into a water fight. A bucketful went out a second deck port, and doused a passing Lt. He fell us out and marched us around the grinder at port arms for over two hours. Its a wonder Chief Nevins didn't make us do it again, but his quiet words with us was sufficient. We were not likely to be so careless again. If that happened now, some do-gooder would complain as if we were being keelhauled. I remember as a third class P.O. in Cuba writng up an Airman for insubordination.
