I don't think it was a mistrust of Mr. Lincoln, perhaps it was a mistrust of the Republican party. A lot of their strength was from the abolishinists I think and that could have been the "fly in the ointment". Just a guess but that could be it. I think Lincoln was someone who could be believed, even tho many on this board would disagree with that. It is true that he said he would do what it takes to preserve the Union and I can see that. To do less would have been to violate his oath of office in my opinion. FC
