During the Atlanta Campaign, officers and men of Ferrell's Battery were active in north Alabama and east Mississippi. During the Atlanta Campaign elements of Roddey's cavalry were dismounted and sent by rail to Atlanta, but this did not include Ferrell's Battery. Roddey's men got as far as Newnan, where they encountered raiders from McCook's command. After destroying McCook's cavalry at Brown's Mill GA (July 30, 1864), Roddey's men were returned to Mississippi.
