I believe you will find that as Hood started out from Atlanta on his way back into Tennessee, that the men of Ferrell's Battery were detached (because of lack of healthy horses)as they were crossing the Chattahoochee River and sent by rail to West Point, GA (14 miles south of LaGrange)and assigned to the military post there reporting to Brig Genl R.C. Tyler.

They served there until Wilson's Raid came through on April 16th, 1865, also known as the Battle of West Point / Fort Tyler. After surrender of the fort, the prisoners were marched to Macon, Georgia where they were paroled.
