Wheeler discovered that it was not unprotected, he and his men being routed at Farmington TN, Oct. 7, 1863. Roddey's men routed a company of "home-made Yankees" at Hunt's Mill on Sept. 26, 1863, and skirmished at Buckton Tavern, Oct. 12, 1863 after blocking a railroad tunnel at Cowan TN.
