I am the Great-Grand-son of one of the Privates who enlisted at LaGrange, Ga. (in the spring of 1862) with the 14th Battalion of this Light Artillery group. His name was William W. Boon(e). I have copies of records showing his enlistment and assignment to Company C under Capt. Ferrell ( a shool teacher from LaGrange. Ga). Something happened in the Fall of 1862 to cause the Company to be assigned to General Roddy of Alabama and the group seemed to split up. I have records to show that part ofthe original Company C was serving under General Wheeler at the battle of Chickamauga and fought there on September 19 & 20, 1863.
Acording to my family history, my GGF William Boon(e) was killed at Chickamauga on September 20, 1863. I have seen one written excerp relating to Capt. Ferrell's Company fighting at Chickamaunga on the afternoon of Sept. 20, 1863.
His widow remarried so there is no record of her filing for a pension. Also we have been unable to get any records from GA about his death. One of the problems is that many of the men in the unit came from Chambers and Randolph Counties just across the river near LaGrange and since Company C was assigned to an Alabama General, they were adopted by the people in Chambers County, Alabama and considered by many to be an Alabama unit. I am planning a trip to the Chickamaunga battle field some time this Spring and am in hope that someone could "shed some light" on this situation for me. Thanks for any help you can give!
