Now, the potential confusion comes in when early that day on the 16th, Tyler had sent a wire to LaGrange GA saying attack on West Point was iminent and requested reinforcements. Under Fannin, several soldiers and citizens brought a train down from LaGrange and joined Tyler's men in the fort. I cannot say for sure at this point whether some or all of the men of Ferrells battery captured at West Point were assigned to that post or had come down that day on the train with Fannin.
I have to dig back into my notes to come up with names of the battery members known to have been in the fort that day. Perhaps that will help. I'll give it a look when I get back to my library.
