In March 1862, many of the batteries of the Army of the West were assigned to an artillery Brigade under Frost, later M L Clark. They were not yet assigned to Brigades.

5/12/62 Corinth, Special Orders #83-Chief of Arty to assign a Btry to each Bgde, retaining 3 Btrys for reserve & transfer balance to the chief of Arty, Army of Miss

5/26/62 HQs Army of the West, Maury to Price-Just rec’d yours of the 24th regarding orders sent by Col Clarke to Maj Wade. They should have been sent through you & it is [for] you to determine if they should be carried out. Meanwhile the cdg Gen will communicate w/Col Clark the necessity of communicating with the Btrys which have been assigned to Bgdes through their proper cdr.

In the June 30, 1862 order of battle, Bledsoe's Btry was attached to Moore's Brigade[ formerly Maury's]. Same for July 30, and also at the battle of Corinth.

3/25/62 Bledsoe was elected Captain

4/21/62 Memphis-Bledsoe’s MSG Btry was transferred to Confederate service

6/13/62 Priceville, Ms A of the West, General Orders #44-
I The Laws of Congress provide for the appointment of Field Officers of Arty, according to the number of Pieces in each Army Corps under this Law the President has been pleased to appoint Col. M. L. Clark Chief & Lt Col. J.P. Major second in command of the Arty of the army of the West. They are hereby announced as such & will be obeyed & respected accordingly.

II to prevent misconstruction of duty or authority it is hereby specified that all orders given by the Field officers of Arty to anyone in the Arty service of this Army will be obeyed. The Field Officers being responsible to the Gen Cdg of the army of the West for the propriety of their orders That Btrys attached to Bgdes when in the Field in active service or on the march are under the orders of the Bgde Cdrs but they are nevertheless subject to the supervision of the Field officers of the Arty, whose duty it is to see that they are properly organized & equipped, that there is uniformity in instruction, that the ammunition is sufficient & properly kept, that the Harness & other appointments are sufficient & in good order and that the Horses are serviceable properly attended to & supplied with Forage;-To this end they will make frequent inspections and call for Reports whenever they may deem it necessary these calls being made on the Btry Cdrs direct any failure to comply with which will be reported immediately to the Division Cdr in whose Division such failure may occur & to these Hd. Qrs.

III When the Army is to be encamped for any length of time, awaiting orders, all the Btrys with the exception of those that the Cdrs may see fit to order in position for defense will be ordered by the Field Officers into a Grand Park for instruction & refitting- While in this Park the Field officers will be the immediate Cdr but the Bgde Cdr will nevertheless inspect the Btrys then attached to their commands & see that they are always in efficient condition for immediate service & will report to these Hd. Qrs. any neglect or bad condition that they may observe notice of these visits will be timely given and the officers of Arty will give every facility to Bgde Cdrs for making such inspections and will receive them with the honors due to their rank- like facilities will also be given by Bgde Cdrs to the Officers of Arty for their inspections of the Btrys whilst in position with the Bgdes.

IV The regular Reports & returns of Arty Co’s attached to Bgdes will always be made to Bgde Cdrs but the Cdrs of the Park may call for them also whenever he may deem it necessary.

V the Arty should always be kept in good working order with the full complement of men & eff horses Bgde Cdrs may therefore, when it becomes necessary transfer, good active soldiers from the Infantry of their Bgdes to these Btrys & may cause Horses to be supplied to be paid for by the QM of Arty

6/28/62 General Orders #2 Priceville, Gen Maury cdg-The Arty park of Army of West to break up & Btrys to their Bgdes
I. the Arty Park of this army will be broken up at once. The Btrys of Bledsoe Lucas & Macdonald will report to their respective Bgde Cdrs.
Capt Hoxton Cdg the reserve Arty will act as chief of Arty during the temporary absence of that officer. He will select a new position for its encampment where better water, shade & Grass can be procured & where there is proper ground for drilling at the maneuvers of Field Arty.

II. the instruction of all Arty will, until further orders, be confined to the field maneuvers The Drills will be early in the morning & late in the evening and the actual duration of each Drill will not exceed one hour & a half. More attention & care must be bestowed on the Arty Horses-They must have the full ration of long Forage & Grain. Whenever there is a deficiency of Forage they must be supplied before any other animals in the army, except the Horses of Mounted officers- All the officers of each Btry will be present during stable duty morning & evening. The stable duties will be conducted strictly in accordance with the regulations & usage in the Cavalry Corps- the Horses will be grazed under charge of a commissioned officer. There will be recitation in Arty Tactics every evening at 8 o'clock in each Btry the Cdr of the Btry will be the instructor, and all the officers & non commissioned officers will be required to recite. The recitation of each evening will embrace those movements which will be executed in Drill the next day. A weekly report will be rendered by each Btry Cdr to his Bgde Cdr of the manner in which these recitations are conducted & of the progress of the officers in learning their duties. Bgde Cdrs will be present at the recitations at least twice a week. Should any officer or non commissioned officer fail to learn, or discharge properly the duties of his office he will be promptly reported for removal and another appointed in his place. The staff section of Arty under command of Capt Brown will at once be consolidated with the incomplete Btry of Capt Guibor. Capt Brown is hereby appointed 1st Lt of Capt Guibor's Btry The two Lt’s serving with Capt Brown's 1/2 section & the junior Lt of Guibor's Btry are supernumerary officers & will be reported accordingly Each Btry Cdr whether attached to a Bgde or not will render the weekly reports to the office of the Chief of Arty required by him.

III. the Bgde Cdrs in person and through the Bgde Inspectors will ensure attention to the strict enforcement of these orders in the Btrys of their respective commands.
