I have a question about Brig. Gen. James Hawes's brigade (the 31st Alabama and the 4th and 9th Kentucky infantry regiments, the separate 4th Alabama Infantry Battalion and Capt. Edward Byrne's Kentucky battery) belonging to Breckinridge's division-sized reserve corps. I've read orders from 22 April '62 assigning Hawes's brigade to detached service at Rienzi

But then on 6 May there is another message with orders for Breckinridge from Beauregard telling the former where to station the four brigades of his small corps. Beauregard tells him to have "two of your brigades on the road west of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, at or about Dobbin's house [wherever that is], which affords a good camping ground." He goes on to say "You might put there your two brigades now farthest south of the Female College. The other two can remain encamped where they are now, but in case of an alarm, would take their positions, one along the Purdy road, about half way to the lines, and the other where already indicated, on the Farmington road, not far from these headquarters"

To me that sounds like Breckinridge had all four of his brigades there at Corinth rather than having Hawes's brigade at Rienzi. Or is it possible that Hawes's brigade went there and had already returned to Corinth or been relieved by another brigade in the meantime before 6 May? Or conversely is it possible that it was still there and Beauregard simply forgot that it was on detached service? He did after all have a lot to keep track of, maybe it slipped his mind?
