The information I have posted regarding Priest is about all that I have for the spring of 1862. Granted, it is a hodgepodge of bits and pieces; but you must remember the fluid state of the Missouri State Guards as most of those commands mustered into the Confederate States Army, or mustered out of service. As more and more men left the Guard, the remaining guard units were likely being whittled down in size. The remnants of the guard, while still in Mississippi, were assembled under General Mosby Parsons who later took them back west of the Mississippi about August 1, 1862. In about a month, even these few troops were converted into CS soldiers, including General Parsons. Traveling with General Parsons were the "commands" of Priest and Winston which later became a part of the 10th Missouri Infantry.

In camp at Des Arc Gen. Van Dorn reorganized the army for shipment to Memphis. The cavalry was dismounted and their horses, together with the quartermaster's stock, sent in herds to Texas, greatly to the disgust of the bold cavalrymen, and to the great delight of the "web-feet."
The "Missouri State Guard" was consolidated and Maj. Gen. M. M. Parsons placed in command, Gen. Price having entered the confederate army. The Missouri State Guard, though subject to all the discipline and service of the confederate army, was still state troops of Missouri.
After a day's rest we entered Des Arc, wondering how the other commands could get there.
Later in 1862, there are a few scattered references in The Peter Wellington Alexander Papers as the "commands" of Priest and Winston were used to complete the organization of the 10th Missouri Infantry Regiment. Following is an example:
Camp on ""White Oak"" [Franklin County, Arkansas] Nov 10. 1862 - 3.30 A.M. Colonel, Yours with regard to picketing has been just received. I have sent forward the party for the ""Saddler Road"" & in a few minutes shall dispatch the other according to orders - I Enclose a letter received from Col. Mitchel [Charles S. Mitchell] last Evening - All the troops under my Command at this point are now organized Except one Company (that of Capt. [William G.] Watkins Col. Cockerels [Francis M. Cockrell] Regts) which came into camp only last night after dark. I have issued marching orders for 9 oclock today & if Watkins has not organized his men by that time I shall leave him here (sans corn) until I report the organized troops. The Company of Capt. Dorsey (Cavy) has no wagons, tents or cooking utensils if Kept on picket duty, it must be moved somewhere near the Cross road heading to Ozark [Arkansas] as there is no forage near here - Please inform me whether I am to report to my Division when through here, or take charge of the Picket Squadron - The broke down horses I wrote to you about are all Govt animals & branded - Very Respectfully Austin M Standish Col. Com'g Mo. Cav'y
Adjutants office 3rd Division Camp Mulberry [Arkansas] Nov 11th 1862 To Col. R. [Robert] C. Newton A.A. Genl. Col. Together with a full Regimental morning report of this Division I have the honor to submit the following statement of the condition of Each Regt. seriatim - The Major commanding [Robert G.] Shavers Regt [38th Arkansas Infantry] reports that he has not ammunition suitable for the Hunting rifles & shot Guns with which his Regt. is armed; he has cartridge boxes for about half his men; no other serious impediment to moving immediately - Col. [James R.] Shaler [27th Arkansas Infantry] reports that his command is ""In condition whatever to move against the Enemy""; his arms are composed of shot guns, rifles & about twenty muskets. Two of his burst yesterday in being discharged, has in all 312 Effective men & one hundred and fifty Effective guns - Col. [Hiram L.] Grinstead [33rd Arkansas Infantry] reports 132 Enfield rifles balance hunting rifles & shot Guns (no moulds for the H. Rifles) wants Cartridge boxes, belts, Cap boxes & ammunition - [Westley] Roberts battery [1st Missouri Field Battery] wants 20 horses 14 sets of harness besides Minor articles - Capt. [Charles B.] Tildens Battery [3rd Missouri Field Battery] is in good fighting order Except that Many of the men (newly Enlisted) are undrilled -
Col. [Josiah H.] Caldwell reports all present armed with mixed arms of all possible description - 40 Rounds of ammunition but most of the Cartridge boxes so small that they will contain but 12 Rounds. This Regt [16th Missouri Infantry] has no transportation - [Alexander E.] Steen's Regt. [10th Missouri Infantry] reports - servicable arms - 78 Shot guns - Hunting Rifles 129. Miss Rifles 10 Muskets 38 - Total 255 - C. Boxes & belts 172. Cap boxes 107. In addition to the above must now be added 174 Stand of good arms 174 Cartridge box. Cap boxes & belts which are in the hands of the men lately commanded by Cols [John W.] Priest & [John H.] Winston making a total of arms in Steens Regt.
429 about 40 Rounds of Amn This Regt. is tolerably well off for transportation with tents for about two full companies Col. [Dewitt C.] Hunters men [2nd Missouri Infantry] are about half armed, with guns of a mixed kind, he has about 15 rounds of ammunition, with a half supply of accoutrements; no transportation and very few tents - Col. [James D.] White has 22 Enfield rifles 28 Miss Rifles 101 Hunting rifles 9 single shot guns 31 Double shot guns 155 Muskets Total 346 Cartridge boxes 233 Cap boxes 175. About 10 Rounds of ammunition each man - No transportation or tents. The want of arms, ammunition, and transportation is the only serious obstacle to an immediate & Effective Movement but I may state now, as heretofore, that the Entire command of Gen. [Mosby M.] Parsons Excepting three Companies, are suffering for want of tents
