In reading your response I'm still confused (probably my fault rather than yours) about the location of James Hawes's brigade, whether it was in Rienzi or Corinth as Beauregard's instructions in early May to Breckinridge seem to infer that the latter had all four of his brigades there at Corinth however in late April Breckinridge got ordered to send Hawes's brigade minus one regiment to Rienzi, due south of Corinth by about 16 miles. Should I infer from Beauregard's instructions in early May that Hawes's brigade had either already returned from Rienzi or conversely never gone there as their orders may have been changed before they left?
