I think you answered my question Danny, that Priest was in command of his 5th Missouri Infantry Battalion in April '62 but not in command of a full 10-company regiment. Meaning what should have been put in the ORs' order of battle for the siege of Corinth should be "5th Missouri Infantry Battalion - Col. John W. Priest" rather than "Priest's Missouri Infantry Regiment". Unless I am misunderstanding you, in which case I apologize. It sure sounds to me like he was still in command of the 5th Missouri Inf. Bn. at that time especially with only 360-some effectives, way too small for a full regiment. Sounds more like a battalion which makes sense.
